The adjourned term of the district court convened Monday, Judge Bradshaw presiding.
The case to be tried was that of the State against William and V. M. Robertson of Lake County, charged with the larceny of a horse and mare belonging to Geo. Russell.
The trial commenced Monday morning and at Wednesday noon was submitted to the jury. Up to the hour of going to press today, the jury had not reported. It is thought if they do not soon reach an agreement, Judge Bradshaw will dismiss and try the case again next May.

Plans for revival of Prineville’s Christmas lighting contest, which was abandoned during the war years, were announced today by the Prineville Jaycees. The outdoor lights at Christmas time had become an annual feature of interest here in the few years before the war, but the shortage of lighting materials during the war years caused the garden club, sponsor of the event, to call off the contest. Material shortages in 1946 delayed resumption of the lighting displays until this year. Del Everson, chairman of the Jaycees committee, announced that the 1947 Christmas light contest will be held in three divisions, one for yard displays, one for window displays and one for house lighting displays. Merchandise prizes will be offered in all three divisions.

There will be a new way to get help during an emergency. Dial “911.”
That’s the new all-emergency number that goes into effect Monday, Dec. 18. It will be available to Prineville area residents with the telephone prefix 447 only.
To report a police or fire emergency, for example, the caller simply dials “911,” gives his or her name, the nature and location of the emergency, and a dispatcher will alert the public safety agency equipped to handle it.
The dispatcher will be located at the Prineville Police Department.
“The best thing about the system,” says Bill Holtsclaw, Prineville mayor, “is there is only one number to remember, whatever the emergency.”

The infamous sharp curve on Highway 126, about halfway down the grade coming into town, will soon be a memory. Work began earlier this week on a project that will widen the highway at that point.
Pat Creedican, ODOT’s District Manager, said the project is a joint effort by the state Department of Transportation and Crook County that will “ease it a little bit.”
When completed, Creedican added, the speed that curve can safely be taken at 25 mph will be safely negotiated at 45 mph.
A benefit to widening the highway, he said, “will be the addition of a left turn lane for traffic up to the viewpoint.”
The project won’t be done all at once. Neither the state nor county budget has funding for doing the work on a speedy schedule. It will be accomplished when equipment is available.
