COURTESY JCSO - The structure was completely burned by the time wild land crews responded Tuesday morning. Neighbors had already discovered Cooper's body.
Fire completely destroyed the home at 15000 SW Lower Bridge Way early Tuesday morning, Dec. 6.
Neighbors looking through the remains discovered the body of Glenn Cooper, 86.
An anonymous caller notified Redmond Fire and Rescue of the fire at about 1 a.m.
Apparently, crews initially had the incorrect address, drove to the end of their district and turned back.
Later wild land fire fighters with the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch responded.
COID called Cloverdale Fire District to help put out hot spots so investigators could search the ruins.
“Glenn was well thought of around here,” said neighbor Jerry Aplin, who was about to look for Cooper who was late for their daily breakfast.
Aplin says Cooper lived on this spot for 57 years. He was a retired utilities lineman and a rancher.
Aplin says Cooper was active among antique engine collectors and had a museum full of various antique engines and vintage vehicles.
Cloverdale Fire Chief Thad Olsen met with a group of residents on Cooper’s property about 12 years ago to discuss joining the district.

Olsen says the majority did not want to pay the increased property taxes.
“If we leave the station for these kinds of calls it puts the people who pay for the protection in a bad situation,” said Olsen.
Cloverdale did not get the initial dispatch call on this incident. That went to Redmond Fire.
Olsen said Cloverdale, like most fire departments, will respond to calls outside of district if there’s any indication the fire threatens a life.
Apparently, the person who called in this fire did not indicate a life was at stake.
