PMG FILE PHOTO: COURTNEY VAUGHN - A bomb threat made to all Portland schools Wednesday, Dec. 7 was found not to be a credible threat by Portland Police Bureau, but police and Portland Public Schools leaders are asking the community to remain vigilant in the wake of the emailed threat.Police say a bomb threat made to Portland schools is likely a hoax.
Portland Public Schools announced that the Portland Police Bureau is investigating an emailed bomb threat made against all schools in the city Wednesday afternoon. According to police, "multiple community members" received a copy of an emailed bomb threat that contained "bias language." Police were notified around 3:40 p.m. Dec. 7.
Police later confirmed the threat contained antisemitic and homophobic language.
"PPB officers began an investigation and coordinated with administrators for multiple schools and district offices," an announcement from the police bureau states. "PPB also informed the Federal Bureau of Investigation. PPB requested that school staffs check their properties, and we have received no reports that anything suspicious has been found."
Portland police are asking all schools in city limits to continue to inspect their campuses and report anything suspicious.
"Threats to schools are taken seriously, as are any bias incidents, and the investigation is ongoing," PPB added.
In a message to families, Portland Public Schools asked students, staff and the broader community "be extremely vigilant and employ heightened situational awareness."
