World Cup is gliding towards its conclusion and we got two of the quarterfinalists yesterday from the two matches in the round of 16. In the upcoming matches on the knockout stage, France will face Poland and England will play against Senegal.

The environment surrounding the World Cup is getting fierce as trash talk is becoming more and more prevalent. Teams and fans are engaging in banter on Twitter to make psychological pressure on their opponents. In one such incident, NBA legend Charles Barkley trash-talked the Netherlands ahead of their match against The USA.

Before the Netherlands and the USA match, Charles Barkley got a bit aggressive with the trash talk. While predicting a USMNT win, he said, “We opening up a can of whoop-a**. I guarantee the Netherlands is in trouble.”

However, to the horror of Charles and all USMNT fans, the Netherlands walked all over the USA beating them 3-1. It was after the win, Memphis posted the screenshot of the final score and a picture of Barkley captioned it, “Lotta bark, No bite“.

The Netherlands is undefeated so far in the tournament with 2-0 wins against Senegal and Qatar, and a 1-1 draw against Ecuador. Coming to the round of 16 with 7 points and as table toppers, Netherlands has qualified for the quarter-finals and will face South American giants Argentina. This is going to be the real test of the team under pressure.

Argentina had qualified for the next round after beating Australia 2-1 in a close match with a last-minute heroic save from Emiliano Martínez. His save stopped Australia from tying the score. Lionel Messi played his 1000th match and scored his first goal in the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup. This was also his 100th game as the captain of the Argentinian team. Lionel Messi also won the Man Of The Match award for the match and beat Cristiano Ronaldo for most MOTM awards in the World Cup.
